The US Playing Card Company - A Bee line for security

Cincinnati, Ohio
31st January, 2002

The US Playing Card Company have been making high quality playing cards since 1881 and the tradition of innovation and quality still comes to the fore 120 years later.

Everyone is aware of the many ways in which players try and influence the outcome of the cards and it is always difficult to guard against the determined cheat.  At ICE 2002 The US Playing Card Company showcased two of its latest products to make it harder for the fraudsters.

Casinos often request white border cards to deter card marking however factory mis-cuts (no matter how minor) can always be identified by an experienced player.  To combat this The US Playing Card Company have designed the “STINGER” ™ which features a faded edge that makes mis-cuts harder to detect.

Another problem is card flashing which is hard to detect but “STINGER”™ helps alleviate this problem by the positioning “STINGERS”™ in each corner of the playing card.  These are in such a position that if the dealer positions the card in such a position as to allow a player to see the flash it will be clearly visible to surveillance cameras or pit surveillance staff.

Tampering with decks and even replacing wrappers to avoid detection is a serious problem.  Now there is “DECK LOCK”™ a unique security system for a deck of cards.

Similar to a pack of cigarettes the pack is surrounded by a shrink-wrap cover that has a tear off.  This deters tampering, as it is plain to see if tampering has occurred.  What makes this system even more unique is the special ink that is impregnated into the wrapper. This ink is only readable by a laser light and makes the copying of the wrappers impossible.  “DECK LOCK”™ provides a visible deterrent to cheats and peace of mind to casino operators.
