Euro melt-down is a positive bonus

Hertforshire, England
March 18th, 2002

Having organised the delivery of hundreds of tonnes of new euro denomination tokens to casinos throughout the Euro Zone, Eurocoin is now busy with the collection of many tonnes of outdated ones.

Disposal of old minted tokens has serious, and in some cases legal implications, for casinos and in every country it is vital that outdated casino currency is prevented from falling into the wrong hands. With this in mind, just over two years ago, Eurocoin developed a Buy-Back scheme in collaboration with the Birmingham Mint. This enables casinos to return minted tokens at the end of their useful life and have them disposed of securely.

A certificate of destruction is issued for each batch of tokens melted down at the Birmingham Mint, and security officers are welcome to witness the process. It was the first scheme of its kind to be offered to the gaming industry. The old tokens are bought back at their scrap value and Eurocoin is currently offering a credit incentive for customers who use the scheme.

"This is a service we provide for our customers rather than a profit-making exercise" said Eurocoin's Sales & Marketing Director, Colin Veitch "but there are security considerations throughout the euro conversion process - for both delivery and disposal - and we felt we were well placed to assist. The main bulk of the collection programme is now complete and we would like to thank all those involved for handling this less glamorous but equally important phase of euro introduction. Any casinos that are still stuck with the problem of scrap tokens are welcome to contact us."
