 Riding on the success of last year’s L.A. Poker Classic, Commerce Casino has increased the stakes during the February 1-26 tournament by offering two $1 million guaranteed events at the recently opened Crowne Plaza Hotel, Commerce Casino. This marks the 13th year of the L.A. Poker Classic. With more than 160 poker tables and the largest poker section in the industry, Commerce Casino, also known as the “Poker Capital of the World” is anticipating a large turnout. Casino Manager Tim Gustin is confident in saying that “while last year’s L.A. Poker Classic broke all previous records and was the largest tournament ever held in Southern California, we’re expecting to shatter our own record with the 2002 L.A. Poker Classic.” Paying out more than $3 million in prize money and hosting over 4500 entrants, the decision to offer two $1 million events was largely due to the phenomenal numbers of 2001. In addition, by providing more than 13,600 square feet of “pillar free” space in the Crowne Ballroom, the 2002 L.A. Poker Classic will be the first tournament of this magnitude to be played in the new facility. Commerce Casino Tournament Director Cheri Dokken has been involved with the L.A. Poker Classic for the past eight years stated: “This year our schedule has something for everyone, starting with $300 buy-ins all the way up to the $7,500 buy-in range. We’ve also expanded our staff to better accommodate the number of players we’re expecting. I feel confident that participants will be pleased with every part of their L.A. Poker Classic experience.” Adds Executive Poker Host Jerry Stensrud: “We have high hopes for February and the future. In the coming years, we’d like to see the L.A. Poker Classic become the biggest tournament in the world.” Celebrating its 19th year as Southern California’s
