Thunderbird Opens in Reynosa-Mexico Initial Venezuela Operating Results San Diego, CA
International Thunderbird Gaming Corporation announces the opening of a skill machine operation in Reynosa, Mexico on August 25, 2001 with 85 machines. Thunderbird expects to increase the number of machines up to 125 by October 1st, 2001. Thunderbird owns a 40% interest in the Reynosa property. Reynosa is located near the U.S. Border City of McAllen, Texas. American citizens go to Reynosa for dining and shopping. The McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa area has established itself as a leading industrial border location. Operations such as General Electric, General Motors, TRW, Black & Decker, AT&T, Whirlpool and Converse Athletic Footwear, are among Fortune 500 companies that have discovered McAllen-Reynosa. The McAllen, Texas/Reynosa, Mexico region has a combined population of approximately 2.1 million. The Reynosa location joins Thunderbird’s Mexican locations in Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo, and is Thunderbird’s eleventh property. Thunderbird’s first Venezuelan operation, a casino in the Hotel InterContinental Guayana opened August 16th with 17 tables, representing 120 table gaming positions and 104 state of the art slot positions including a 12 position Sigma Derby and an 8 position Novamatic electronic roulette. Preliminary results are encouraging and the Company is pleased with the casino’s headcount and volume of play.
