Shelton Star at Cascade Margate

Kent based Churchills Design and Build already had a history of successful Stanley Casino refurbishment's behind them when they won the contract to design and build Margate's new Cascade Casino. Churchills Interior Architect Andrew Meiklejohn
wanted a major glass feature that would change colour as customers walked past it for the reception, but finding the right one was a problem, until he was introduced to Shelton International's new "Photochromic" glass.

Said David Thomas, Churchills MD, "Before we saw Shelton's glass we had considered a number of high tech solutions which were costly and over complicated. Shelton's glass achieved the required effect with a simple but highly effective technique"

The result is a Cascades logo in a curved glass panel measuring almost two and a half by one and a half metres. In itself quite an achievement as laminated glass is notoriously difficult to bend and form. However the result has impressed all who've seen it.

"It's a great effect, the colour change is truly unique, and it's a perfect compliment to Cascades bold interior design theme " said Churchills executive Anita Nelms.

Said Shelton International's Bob Fowler "I'm very pleased have had opportunity of working with Churchills and the Cascade Casino. Our Photochromic glass is a very flexible product, and its ability to change colour will come into its own by adding
intrigue and impact to any design. We're looking forward to applying it to bar tops, table tops and even making ashtrays out of it."
