Sarum Training's "Croupier Award" - City & Guilds qualifications for the UK casino industry

Bournemouth, England
23rd August, 2001.

Casinos in the UK can now benefit through training their staff for a nationally recognised qualification. Equally existing and future staff employed within the industry should benefit from at last being able to gain qualifications in their skilled roles which have, until now, never borne the fruit of recognised qualifications to place upon their CV’s.

A City and Guilds qualification has been developed by UK (Bournemouth) based training provider, Sarum Training International Ltd, who have been training croupiers for a number of years. Sarum Training International Limited is a government recognised training provider and is an approved centre for City and Guilds and other awarding bodies.

The new award, which can be delivered in-house (by branch trainers who are D32/33 assessor qualified) or at Sarum Training International's own training centre, consists of five units covering Casino Legislation and Security, Customer Service, American Roulette, Blackjack and Casino Stud Poker. Competence is assessed through written tests and practical assignments over an eight-week programme.

Existing staff already working in a casino or who have trained in the industry at an earlier date can obtain the award by completing just the assessment aspects of the course for which they should already have sufficient experience to pass. This can be done over either a period of time or in a programme of assessment, again either in-house or at Sarum Training International's own training centre.

It is hoped that the award will be accepted as a new industry standard by all the major casino groups in the UK and the Gaming Board for Great Britain.

Sarum Training International Ltd are currently working on a Casino Inspector Award, and over the next few years, in conjunction with City & Guilds, they will be developing a whole range of casino related awards covering such areas as Pit Management, Slots Management, Reception, Cash Desk and Card Room Management. These awards will build into a comprehensive City and Guilds training development package giving the individual an opportunity to actively pursue a successful career within the casino industry.
