International Business Expands With Australian Game Platform Approval.
Product Installations in 20 Countries Outside of North America.
Opening of New Sales Office in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Gaming Inc., a subsidiary of WMS Industries Inc. (NYSE:WMS),
announced today that its strategic ally in Australia, Stargames
(ASX:SGS.AX), has received approval from regulatory authorities in
State of New South Wales (NSW), Australia for its PC3 video slot
hardware platform, and that WMS has commenced porting its popular game
offerings onto this PC3 platform.
WMS' first game software to be released in Australia,
Party®, a multi-line, multi-coin video slot, has already been
submitted for regulatory approval in NSW. WMS Gaming anticipates it
will receive full approval and begin initial installations of Jackpot
Party® in NSW in May 2001. WMS has also submitted the Once Around®
version of the MONOPOLY® - themed game to the NSW Testing Authority
for recommendation for approval, and WMS will be submitting other
games during the coming months.
WMS and Stargames previously announced an exclusive
whereby Stargames will manufacture and sell WMS Gaming's multi-line,
multi-coin video games in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
WMS Gaming will act as Stargames' exclusive sales representative for
select number of key accounts within these territories, while
Stargames will sell to other clubs, hotels and casinos. WMS
anticipates submitting games for approval in other Australian states
and New Zealand during the next two quarters.
Separately, WMS reported that it has received approval
to sell its
gaming products in many countries throughout Latin America and Europe.
Through direct sales and distributors, the Company has to date
successfully placed gaming machines in 20 different countries outside
of North America. Also, WMS has recently opened a sales office in
Johannesburg, South Africa to pursue the casino and anticipated low
payout slot route market in that country.
"Over the last year we have made a significant commitment
complex licensing and approval processes involved in international
jurisdictions which paved the way towards establishing a footprint
many countries in Latin America, Europe and Asia," said Brian R.
Gamache, President and Chief Operating Officer of WMS Industries, Inc.
"With the imminent approval and installs in Australia, WMS will
further expand its international presence and reputation for
delivering the most entertaining slot machines in the industry. As
Australia represents the largest gaming market outside of the United
States, we believe it is imperative for WMS to establish a strong
presence and garner marketshare to enhance our reputation as a leading
international supplier. In our market research studies, players in
Australia gave excellent ratings to our games on key factors such as
entertainment, novelty and overall playing experience. Given the size
of these markets and the initial positive response to WMS products,
anticipate that approximately one-third of our base game sales will
come from the international markets within the next three to five
years. We are enthused by the progress we have made to date in the
international marketplace and are working aggressively to pursue rapid
growth in these markets."
