| WMS Positioned for Continued Growth Through New Consolidated
Manufacturing Facility and Headquarters
WAUKEGAN, Ill
Jan. 4, 2001
New Expandable Facilities, Re-Engineered Manufacturing Process and
Consolidation of Warehousing Will Provide Shorter Lead Times and Greater
Efficiencies -
WMS
Industries Inc. (NYSE:WMS) announced today that it has
completed the relocation of its corporate headquarters and
manufacturing operation to its owned facility in Waukegan, Illinois,
approximately 30 miles north of Chicago.
The 236,000 square-foot state-of-the-art manufacturing
and
distribution facility provides ample room for the expansion of
manufacturing being situated on 38 acres of Company-owned land. The
move has allowed WMS to consolidate its management and administrative
employees along with its manufacturing, distribution and warehousing
functions in one location. The Company is comfortable with the
previously announced cost estimate of $.07 to $.09 per share for
fiscal 2001 to effect this relocation.
WMS has completed the move on schedule and now manufactures
all of
its video and reel spinning slots and video lottery terminals in the
Waukegan facility. As previously announced, the Company will now begin
renovation of its owned Chicago facility into a state-of-the-art
technology campus for its product development group.
"The successful, seamless move of corporate operations
and
manufacturing to Waukegan represents another significant advance in
our efforts to position WMS for further growth and emerge as the
employer of choice in our industry," commented Brian R. Gamache,
President and Chief Operating Officer of WMS Industries Inc. "WMS
employees are committed to our long-term mission of providing the most
entertaining products in the world and servicing our customers with
an
uncompromising passion for quality. We now have the right
environments, both in Waukegan and with our soon-to-be renovated
Chicago technology campus, that allow our employees to thrive and
achieve optimal productivity. Our unending dedication to quality and
innovation and new state-of-the-art facilities will support our goal
of becoming the industry's employer of choice."
Scott Schweinfurth, Executive Vice President, Chief
Financial
Officer and Treasurer of WMS Industries commented, "Cost efficiency
through consolidation was among the top factors in our decision to
relocate our facilities. In conjunction with the move, we have also
begun the process of re-engineering our entire manufacturing process
in order to reduce the lead times for product delivery. Our goal is
to
reduce lead time to approximately 4-6 weeks, providing us with a
significant competitive advantage over other companies in the
industry. Additionally, WMS will benefit from reduced overhead and
lease costs by eliminating rented warehouse and distribution
facilities and will achieve much greater operating efficiencies by
locating manufacturing, distribution and parts-sales activities in
a
single facility. These moves allow our management team to be more
effective in managing day-to-day operations, reducing costs, improving
productivity and increasing gross margins."
