New industry standard includes facial recognition, local database enrollment software and a closed-loop non-Internet network for identifying cheats and casino undesirables
Littleton, MA, Mont Vernon, NH and Las Vegas, NV, March 29, 2000 - Viisage Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: VISG), Biometrica Systems, Inc. announced today the order and installation at Mirage Resort, Las Vegas, the fiftieth casino to order its full surveillance suite of Visual Casino loss-reduction systems. A computer application, Visual Casino is used by surveillance operators to identify cheaters and other casino undesirables, as well as casino VIPs, using facial recognition technology.
Using the Visual Casino application, casinos create their own databases complete with digital pictures, information, and actions taken. The digital pictures are processed using Viisage’s facial recognition technology. Patrons who then return to the casino can be identified when pictures taken with a surveillance camera are compared to the pictures the casino has on the databases. Within seconds, the person identified by the system is displayed along with the additional information the casino may have on the individual.
Robert Schmitt, Biometrica’s President, explains, " Surveillance and
operations managers see the immediate benefit of this technology in quickly
identifying selected patrons while they are still in house. Casinos
can dramatically cut their losses to the individuals and teams working
to cheat and defraud the casinos."
Viisage President and CEO, Tom Colatosti, said, "In a very short time, Biometrica has become the world’s leader in bringing facial recognition technology and solutions to the casino market and to the entire gaming industry. Biometrica is a great partner and we look forward to developing additional markets with similar success. "
Colatosti went on to say, "The biometric market is developing segment
by segment with surveillance and security applications leading the way.
Our strategy is to leverage our casino successes to continue to develop
new commercial segments which focus on improving consumer convenience and
reducing identity fraud."
The Visual Casino product suite additionally includes the Casino Information Network and the Casino Information Database, as well as unique copyright training tools that assist operators in learning to recognize faces stored on a casino’s database. The Casino Information Network is the secure, closed-loop; non-Internet network used by surveillance and security departments to exchange timely information and queries about casino suspects. The Casino Information Database, published by CVI, LLC, is the state-of-the-art subscription database of casino undesirables, and comes with updated data and photographs the are facial recognition ready.
