WMS Gaming and IGT Team Up to Place Popular Branded Entertainment
Slot Machines On IGT Wide-Area Progressive System
WAUKEGAN, Ill. & RENO, Nev. & HOLLYWOOD, Calif.
April 26th, 2001
Agreement Couples IGT's Linked Jackpot Systems with WMS' Licensing
Rights
WMS
Gaming Inc., a subsidiary of WMS Industries Inc. (NYSE: WMS),
and IGT, a subsidiary of International Game Technology (NYSE: IGT)
announced today that they have entered into an agreement whereby WMS
will develop games based on a popular entertainment brand to be placed
on IGT's wide-area progressive jackpot system.
WMS Gaming has secured the North American licensing
rights to this brand
and will announce the details of that agreement shortly. Under the
terms of the
agreement, WMS Gaming will design and market the gaming devices based
on the brand, which will be manufactured by IGT and placed on IGT's
MegaJackpots™ progressive linked jackpot system. Plans call for
submitting the game for regulatory approval within the next nine
months. All game placements are subject to receiving applicable
regulatory approvals. Profits from the games will be shared equally
by
WMS and IGT.
This newly themed MegaJackpots game represents the
first time that
a WMS gaming product will be placed on a wide-area progressive system.
It will utilize IGT's extended odds Telnaes patented technology which
IGT has licensed to WMS for the development of the new game.
"We believe that the combined strengths of IGT's
proven
MegaJackpots™ technology, the acknowledged popularity of this brand
and WMS' product development talent will produce a home run in terms
of player popularity," said Tom Baker, IGT President and CEO.
"The opportunity to couple these licensing rights
with IGT's WAP
system further strengthens WMS Gaming's reputation as one of the top
suppliers of blockbuster entertainment-based participation gaming
products," commented Brian R. Gamache, President and Chief Operating
Officer of WMS Industries Inc. "We anticipate that the incredible
broad-based appeal of this property should prove to be a major
attraction for casino patrons."
Mr. Gamache continued, "Working closely with IGT
on this business
venture reinforces our commitment to focus on the kind of positive
collaboration that takes our business relationship to the next level.
By joining forces with the progressive systems market leader, we can
more quickly provide a superior product to both the casino operators
and casino patrons. Furthermore, through our close working
relationship with IGT, we have opened up entirely new avenues of
potential for this latest themed gaming product. Launching this
branded slot machine with IGT's wide-area progressive technology
creates a win-win-win situation, as this three-way business venture
offers WMS' research and design team a multitude of new game design
options, casino operators a new way to enhance their financial
results, and players the opportunity to play for larger jackpots on
an
immediately recognizable game. We believe this excitement,
entertainment and added visibility will translate into significant
recurring revenues."
"This popular entertainment brand provides an enormous
variety of
theme opportunities that will work great for unique bonus rounds,"
stated John Giobbi, Vice President of Product Development for WMS
Gaming. "Our creative team has already developed several exciting
design concepts, which we believe will be highly entertaining to
casino patrons. We are focused on ensuring that WMS' first wide area
progressive product is a success."
