FreedomOfChoice.org asks Representatives to vote against Bill Citizens Asked to Write Their Representatives Too Washington, D.C.
FreedomOfChoice.org has contacted members of the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee asking that they vote against H.R. 556, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act. FreedomOfChoice.org and its members contend that this bill is an unwarranted intrusion into the private affairs of American citizens and wrongfully would prohibit their ability to use personal payment tools for private activities. Under the terms of HR 556, Americans would no longer be able to pay for "illegal" online gambling activity using credit cards, debit cards, wire transfers, checks or other payment methods. As there is no federal legislation prohibiting Internet gambling, this bill makes little sense while opening the door for the federal government to controlling how Americans pay for any transaction and worse. FreedomOfChoice.org contends that online gambling is not something that should be prohibited by the federal government, as this is an activity that is controlled at the state level. Further, it makes no sense to make a legal activity illegal when it is done on the Internet. "Legislation like the Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act is an unfair intrusion by the federal government into the everyday life of American citizens. Gambling is legal in nearly every state of the Union and there's no reason that offering gambling over the Internet should be treated any differently," said Stephen Fein, director for FreedomOfChoice.org. "This is just another attempt by legislators to impose a nanny-state upon Americans, and our members want this bill's passage prevented. That's why we have contacted members of the House of Representatives asking that they vote against H.R. 556 when it comes up for vote," he said. "We're also encouraging others out there to contact their representatives to vote against H.R. 556 and protect their ability to use their own discretion when it comes to paying for their purchases." FreedomOfChoice.org is a grassroots-based political action committee seeking to protect Americans right to use their varied payment methods to pay for any and all legal activities without unnecessary interference from our government.
