Pre
G2E Newsletter
30th
September, 2004
| Hello & Welcome |
This
is the pre-G2E edition of the monthly newsletter. The last one went out
way back in April, so as is customary I will make my apology for being
so inconsistent.
The Global
Gaming Expo is next week and many of you will have already made your arrangements.
If you are an exhibitor you are no doubt calmly making last minute preparations,
checking that everything has arrived or is neatly packed so that all goes
smoothly during the set-up and the three days of the show.
But if
you are the type that leaves everything to the last minute then clicking
below and pre-registering is sure to save time on what will be a very busy
opening day.

| The weekly POLL |
| Every
Monday we have a new Poll conducted to gauge visitor opinion on events
important, and sometimes not very important, to the casino industry.
The question
this week is a topical one. Who do you think will
be the biggest winners from proposals to deregulate casinos in Great Britain
?
Just click
to vote. If you have any problems with the widget being embedded in this
email you can go to the Gaming floor homepage and all should run smoothly.
Voting
levels are still not high unfortunately. If you have a potential question
please feel free to send it on.
I do though
have a good one for next week already lined up :)

| British deregulation |
The Poll
question picked itself this week as I will be moderating a conference session
on almost the very same subject during G2E.
Wednesday,
6th October
The U.K.: Winners and
Losers in a Changing Landscape.
2.00 - 2.50pm
Room: S228 |
The panel
of three speakers are all specialists in their field and Gideon Hoffman,
Head of Gaming Policy at the DCMS will be making his first speech after
the Government's latest response to the Joint Scrutiny Committee's Report.
It has
been reported in the press that the proposals will now favour overseas
operators wishing to enter the market. Some of the British operators are
disappointed, but they will eventually be able to expand their operations
and offer a wider selection of products, so perhaps it's not all bad news.
Who is
going to be a winner then ?. If you are signed up for the Conference
sessions be sure to be there. I am looking forward to some lively debate.

| AGA Communication
awards |
I was
very proud and pleased to be selected again as a website judge for the
AGA's Gaming Voice Communication Awards.
The presentation
ceremony will be held on the 6th October at the MGM Grand.
2004 Gaming Voice Award
finalists.

It is amazing how over the years that company websites have evolved and
are now an essential part of the corporate identity. Just a few short years
ago they were looked up as something of an inconvenience - the competition's
got one so I think it's time we should !
How that attitude
has changed and the three below are the Operator/Supplier sites which have
reached the grand final.
Ameristar Casinos, Inc.
Caesars Entertainment,
Inc. - www.caesars.com
Station Casinos, Inc.
All three
are excellent, well worth exploring and looking at the quality of images,
layout and the many integrated features. Secure online room reservations
and booking for the major U.S. operators is now standard.

| Gamingfloor Poker |
Gamingfloor
Poker has now been up and running since March at www.gfpoker.com.
The room itself is what is termed a "Skin" which basically means that while
the Gaming floor logo appears on the tables the actual play is Victor Chandler's
pokerroom based in Gibraltar. They also handle all the financial
transactions and support. Real money play is not available to persons located
in the U.S.
Poker
continues it's explosive growth around the world. Next spring with the
WSOP now owned by Harrah's I would not be surprised to see the first prize
approaching $5 million. The WPT has been a major success on the Travel
Channel and many players on both sides of the Atlantic are achieving celebrity
status. What a turnaround!
Here are
two LV Review-Journal headlines from only 3 years ago.

Riviera

| Updates from
the U.S. |
Casino Operations Forum - www.gamingfloor.biz/forum
I will
be in the U.S. from the 1st to 11th October. Please check the Forum for
daily updates. Headline news links will be very limited but there will
be comment & photos from an itinerary that includes Californian Indian
casinos, Laughlin, the Strip, Downtown, the show itself and when I am not
working hard - the odd party.
The problem
is that on the road there are so many distractions. Attempting anything
too difficult with HTML after even a modicum of alcohol is never advised.
Just like driving, but not as dangerous.

| Looking for staff
or a new Job ? |
Experienced
casino staff who are looking for a job or new opportunities can as ever
post their details online for free.

If you
want to advertise a vacancy directly it is either £100, €150
or $150 for a 1 month listing (I like to keep things simple).
More advertisements
are of course always required and contact me if you would like a custom
campaign designing for your company. Visitors to the employment section
in August were almost 4,000.
