Andrew Tottenham has announced the July formation of Tottenham Consulting. Based in London, the new company is aimed at providing a full range of services to the international gaming industry. Mr Tottenham was formerly President and COO of Trans World Gaming Corp. Also as Managing Director of Tottenham & Co he has provided consulting services to a portfolio of international operators and legislative bodies.

    Hilton Group have announced results for the six months to 30th June. Profits were £108.8  for the period. The slight fall being put down to large investments in setting up online ventures ( and soccer bettors showing good judgement during Euro 2000.
    Ladbrokes, the gaming and betting arm of the group operates 27 casinos in the UK including 6 in London. The casino in Douglas on the Isle of Man is also due to hold the Poker Mi££ion tournament in November.

    Today's National Lottery Commission decision to defer announcing an outright winner for the next 7 year term of the British Lottery has led to a great deal of media speculation in both the UK & US.
    The contract for one of the worlds most successful lotteries being instead narrowed down to just Richard Bransons People's Lottery. The "not for profit" plan must now meet further conditions over the next month to get final approval.

    Storm International CS B.V. has opened its latest casino in Port El Kantaoui in Tunisia. The Stardust Casino is a 15 table, 70 slot operation and opened on August 11th. The company has for a number of years opened and managed casinos in Moscow and other regions in the former Soviet Union. Storm President, Geoff Taylor added that the new Stardust Casino is the latest in a series of projects online and in other parts of Europe that the company has presently under consideration.

    Sweden's Boss Media that develop online gaming software and are listed on the Stockholm exchange announced interim results on the 17th showing sales up 43% to Skr 80.1 million ($8.6 million).     IGT Europe have announced that Hit Casinos in Slovenia has chosen all IGT machines for the Park Casino, Nova Gorcia. 
    In Greece, Casino Loutraki will be installing the latest S2000 slant tops in the high denomination section of the gaming floor. Casino Loutraki opened in 1996 located around 60 km from Athens and will also shortly open a five star hotel adjacent to the casino.

    The expiration of the license to run the National Lottery in Britain and who will be chosen for the next 7 term is the subject of an article in the Financial Times. The decision is expected later this week with Camelot the present operators in a straight head to head battle against Sir Richard Branson. The Lottery one of the worlds largest, generates sales of £5 billion annually. Both companies have forecasted that they will contribute £15 billion to good causes over the next contract.

    The Football Pools which have been an institution in Britain for the last 60 years look set for a radical shake up. Privately owned retailer Littlewoods, the largest pools operator that now also has a telephone bookmaking arm, has sold its betting and gaming division to Rodime for £161.8 million. The pools companies have in recent years faced increasing competition especially from the National Lottery and fixed odds betting on soccer.

    Casino du Liban generated gross gaming revenues of $42 million in the first six months of 2000. The casino is presently managed by Abela Development and Tourism Company and London Clubs International on a ten year contract.    Holland Casinos that have the sole concession to operate casinos in the Netherlands and have 10 properties are being connected via a broadband local access network. The news comes from dutch company Versatel Telecom International who have been contracted to install the fiber optic system. Holland Casinos will be opening their 11th casino in the historic city of Utrecht later this year and employ some 4,000 people.

    The Associated Press has reported that police have raided the homes of employees of the Estoril Casino. Aparently $460,000 being uncovered with the workers - not mentioned which department, facing charges of usury and extortortion. The casino, regarded as Europes largest is located 20km from Lisbon and is owned by Stanley Ho.

  Atronic International have announced that the largest ever slot jackpot in Europe has been won at the Bad Zwischenhan Spielbank in Northern Germany. The prize of DM 4.6 million ($2.25 million) was won on a wide area progressive system that links 51 Atronic video slots across 10 casinos in Lower Saxony.

    Casino Solei in Croatia due to open on the 21st July will have 18 table games and some 120 slots. The American-style casino is located in Umag on the coast of Istria. IGT Europe have supplied over 100 of the machines incuding S-Plus reel slots, Players Edge-Plus video poker machines, and Game King and iGame-Plus machines. 
    Over on the other side of Europe the company will also be delivering an order of 74 machines to Casino Estoril in Portugal.

    Atronic International have announced that they now have 400 units of their Atronic Cruise Pro Video machines installed. The installations are part of a co-operation between Atronic and P.A.F who operate ferries in the Baltic Sea and North Sea. The machines are specifically built to withstand ship movement in rough seas including a special machine base for easy shipboard mounting.

    Bayerische Spielbank have opened Spielbank Lindau after a period of refurbishment. Situated on an island on Lake Constance it is the latest in a series of openings for the company. CARD's Chipmaster being selected as the chipping machine for the American Roulette tables.
    Recent openings in Bayern have been Bad Füssing, Kötzting & Feuchtwangen. Spielbank Bad Steben is due to open in February 2001 and will take groups total to 9 casinos.

    IGT Europe have released an update of recent developments from their base at Hoofddorp in the Netherlands. Kurt Quartier who was previously the European Sales Manager has now been promoted to European Managing Director.
    The first Wheel of Fortune machines to be installed in Europe are headed for the refurbished Bayerische Spielbank in Lindau. The casino has its official reopening after refurbishment on the 15th July. In Portugal the Casino Figueira da Foz is due to receive a batch of new iGame+ and Triple Play Pokers as part of an expansion of gaming facilities.

    British bookmaker and casino operator Stanley Leisure has announced profits up 32% for the year ended 30th April. Pre tax profits were £31 million on turnover of £571 million. The casino division including the three london properties chipped in £25.6 million. The company presently operates two online casinos and and also has plans to take the famous Crockfords name online by year end.

    London Clubs International have announced that the Nevada State Gaming Control Board have recommended the approval of their licence application for the Aladdin in Las Vegas. The application will now go to a hearing of the Gaming Commisssion on the 27th July.

  CARD (Casinos Austria Research and Development) and Bourgogne et Grasset (B&G) have jointly announced the arrival of the Pigment Chip/Jeton. CARD have developed the product which involves using special pigments attached during manufacture to the chips exterior.
    The identification, value and authenticity can then read automatically with a light reader that may be hand held or incorporated into chipping machines. B&G will be the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of the new chips and jetons.

    A Malaysian businessman has failed in the countries courts to overturn a judgement in a London that he must repay a £290,000 gambling debt. Casino operator Grosvenor Clubs had originally obtained a ruling from the Supreme Court of England and Wales for dishonoured cheques dating back to 1998.

    CARD, Casinos Austria's research and development arm that has developed and manufactures the Shuffle Star announced in late June a new distribution agreement with casino equipment supplier Technical Casino Services (TCS). CARD will handle sales and service in Europe and in countries where Casino Austria has international operations. TCS will represent the product in the UK and the rest of the world.

    There are no official casinos in the Irish Republic. Private members clubs however are exploiting a loophole in the law to offer gambling. The Gaming and Lotteries Act of 1956 allows gaming in private members clubs and fellow members are presently acting as the bank. A practice that was common place in British casinos prior to and also after the 1968 Gaming Act.
    Although the operations are on a quite small scale there has been recent press coverage over plans to site a casino at the Curragh racetrack on the outskirts of Dublin.
