The first South Korean casino opened in Inchon in 1967 and there are presently 17 in total, 8 of which are located on the island of Cheju. Casinos are open to foreign nationals only with the exception of the Kangwon Casino that permits South Korean citizens to gamble.

Taiwan
The Council for Economic Planning and Development will report in October 2007 if the legalisation and establishment of casinos will be beneficial to Taiwan.

If allowed, licenses are proposed to have a lifespan of 20 years. Taxation of profits will be at 40% and overseas ownership capped at 60%.
